Concept

palkind

Seventeen creatures on one shared core. The core is a COAT and nothing else — the tail, the markings, the muzzle and the ears are all separate layers over it, which is why a guinea pig with no tail and a unicorn with a horn cost about the same as another dog: a line each, and no new body.

How one is made

Five layers and a sheep appears. Nothing here was drawn for a sheep except the fleece, the droop ears and the woolly tail — the coat, the silhouette and the muzzle shape are all shared.

1 · the core

A coat. Nothing else.

2 · a tail

Its own layer — a guinea pig has none.

3 · a marking

The fleece rings the face.

4 · the muzzle

After the marking, or it is covered.

5 · the ears

And it is a sheep.

The dogs

Ear shape first, then coat, then muzzle.

Dachshund

Border Collie

Pug

Cockapoo

The cats

Upright ears, whisker pads, a tail that goes up.

Ginger

Tuxedo

British Blue

Small pets

No tail at all, and ears set low on the side of the head.

Guinea Pig

ginger coat · petal ears · tricolour · no tail

Horses

A long muzzle, narrow ears well apart, and a mane — the first pass had the ears wide and close and it read as a rabbit.

Horse

bay coat · upright ears · mane

Mythical

The same horse, plus a spiral horn. A cone reads as a party hat.

Unicorn

lilac coat · unicorn ears · mane

The farm

A broad pink muzzle and real horns; a fleece that rings the face rather than covering it.

Cow

snow coat · lop ears · friesian

Sheep

choc coat · droop ears · fleece

And the ones nobody drew

Seventeen are named. The parts recombine into far more than that, which is the commercial argument for a fixed core: a customer whose animal is on no list can still build it, and a new one costs a line rather than a drawing.

Three forms, one brand

palkind and dinokind share a core byte for byte; iconkind has its own. The badge, the beanie and the trug cross all three unchanged.
