Who walks who?
Who walks who? Any iconkind might keep a companion — a creature, a smaller kind, now and then one another — and which of the pair is looking after whom is left open on purpose. The lead changes with the day.
The Explorer finds the others and writes down where. The dog knew already, and was only waiting to be asked.
Rodd reads the water before the forecast does. The cat reads Rodd, and has never once been wrong about dinner.
The Ruler decides last, and the whole room waits on the word. Lumi decides nothing at all, and is obeyed on sight.
Voss says less than anyone in the room. His companion says less still — and the two of them understand each other completely.
Niko points at the door and means: what is that, and can we go. The cat went through it an hour ago. Who is walking who.
