Lead
Lead the way. Finds the others, writes down where, and goes first so you don't have to.
Somebody has to go and look. I take the map, the case and the binoculars, I write down what I find and where, and then I come back and tell you the way. It is not brave; it is just going first with your eyes open.
The route, the record and the next ridge. Getting there properly — map read, kit checked, specimen logged — and bringing everyone back with a story. Not speed, and not being first for its own sake.
Steady, curious, matter-of-fact — the calm of someone who has already been round the next corner. Enjoys the detail; never dramatises the danger.
Lead the way — I've been up here before.
Write it down, or it didn't happen.
The path goes left. The view goes right.
Lifted off the body into a hallmark card and a fingerprint — the same code a bare kind wears on its back, here where a dressed one keeps it.
